หลวงจิตร์จำนงค์วานิช ขุนนางเชื้อสายจีน บุตรเขยหลวงสาทรราชายุตก์ (ยม) ผู้ซึ่งเป็นคหบดีคนสำคัญ ในยุคสมัยนั้น เป็นผู้สร้างเรือนหลังนี้ในราวปลายรัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้า อยู่หัวหรือในปี พ.ศ. 2431 ในบริเวณที่ดินที่ซื้อไว้บริเวณสีลมกับบ้านทวาย แล้วจ้างกรรมกรจีนขุดคลองผ่านที่ดินจากแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาไปบรรจบคลองหัวลำโพง ซึ่งต่อมาได้มีการตัดถนนไปตามแนวสองฝั่งคลอง จึงเป็นที่มาของ “คลองสาทร” และ “ถนนสาทร” ตามชื่อหลวงสาทรราชายุตก์ ต่อมาในรัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวได้ทรงพระกรุณาโปรด เกล้าฯ พระราชทานบ้านหลังนี้ให้กับเจ้าพระยารามราฆพ หลังจากนั้นได้ปรับเปลี่ยนเป็นโรงแรมไทยแลนด์อยู่ระยะหนึ่ง จนต่อมาถึงปี พ.ศ. 2491 สาธารณรัฐโซเวียตโซเชียลิสต์ จึงขอเช่าอาคารหลังนี้เพื่อเป็นสถานอัครราชทูต ก่อนที่จะย้ายที่ทำการไปยังซอยทรัพย์ในปี พ.ศ. 2545 ปัจจุบันเรือนหลังนี้กำลังถูกพัฒนาในเชิงอนุรักษ์ ซึ่งจะสามารถคงลักษณะทางสถาปัตยกรรมเดิม และการใช้ประโยชน์ในแนวใหม่ร่วมกันได้อย่างลงตัว

потом переведу. здесь написана история дома. долгое время это было наше посольство. я приезжал сюда в 1992-м, когда работал в бангкоке. здесь работала моя теща и тесть в 60-х годах. жаловались, что было ужасно тесно.

очень приблизительный перевод (основные моменты): дом был построен одним знатным тайцем китайского призхождения в 1888 году на купленной земле (примерно, в результате перевода буддийских дат в григорианские могут быть различия +-1 год). затем китайские рабочие проложили дорогу по второму берегу канала. дом был подарен королем одному из своих подданных. затем здесь размещалась гостиница «таиланд». в 1948-м (49-м?) арендовало здание под свое посольство, которое переехало на улицу сап в 2002. в настоящее время здание реставрируется под новые цели. Interesting things from the Bangkok Highrises site - August 18, 2003
Photos of the strange buildings on the Assumption University (ABAC) Bangna Campus, the towers at Shinawatra University and Suranaree University of Technology. Also a new design for Sathorn Square that would apparently appear to require the tearing down of the Russian Embassy--one of the largest Thai-style mansions left.

The future of the Luang Mansion/Russian Embassy - July 23, 2004
Golden Land PLC has finally declined our requests to photograph the old Luang Mansion/Russian Embassy on Sathorn Road saying they were still planning the use of the building and that the building itself was 'very dilapidated.' They said the building will be protected and integrated into whatever will be built on the corner of Sathorn and Narathiwat Road.
They further observed 'candidly' that the Luang Mansion/Russian Embassy building was shoddily constructed and not worthy of being protected. They said the only reason it was a protected building was that Thailand had already torn down most important historic buildings and this was all that was left.
Above and below are photos of the mansion that could be obtained by looking into the site. The photo above shows an office for consular affairs constructed off the front of the building.

1914 - The mansion was built by Luang Jitjamnongwanich as his residence
1927 - The mansion became the 'Hotel Royal'
1948-99 - Used as the Soviet, then Russian Embassy
2005 - Restored and used as a health club as a part of Sathorn Square development

...He said that few people seemed to appreciate the fact that the mansion of Luang Jitjamnongwanich on Sathorn Road was being converted into an office building for the Russian Embassy.
"But then we tell that this area is related to the main characters of the novel "Si Phaendin" ["Four Reigns" by Kukrit Pramoj]. That building could be Khun Prame’s house, where Mae Ploy went to get married. The imagination and feeling makes a big difference,” he added...
